Stanberry Board talks levy and improvement projects

The Stanberry Board of Education met last week. Items on the agenda included new teacher orientation. Stanberry Superintendent Bob Heddinger says the tax levy for the school year was also approved.

"In our case, we have $4.10 for our operating budget or incidental account.  And we have a $1.33 in our capital projects to pay for our building lease purchases.  That gives us a grand total of $5.43 which the state auditor confirmed.  We're allowed to tax at that rate and that's what the board voted for."

Heddinger also adds new projects were completed over the summer into the beginning of the school year.

"They have the new  basketball scoreboards in, the new football scoreboard and play clocks are in.  We're waiting on delivery of the softball scoreboard to arrive and we'll get that installed.  Inside the building, our maintanance staff did a fantastic job this summer of not only just the normal spit-shine-polish of the place, but we added some updates to the concession stand, teacher workroom, and classrooms.  A lot of technology was added to the high school/junior high end with new interactive TVs."

Heddinger also says a majority of the funds used to make all of these renovations were because of the Stanberry community.

"About 90% if not more - I don't have my final numbers but close to 90% of those projects - were funded by donations and sponsorships outside of the school budget.  So I'm just so grateful to be involved with a community that supports our school."

The next Stanberry Board of Education meeting will be held on September 16th at 7 pm in the Superintendent's office.
